Job Overview:
As a Shuttering Carpenter, you will play a vital role in constructing shutters and assembling formwork systems for various structures, including columns, beams, slabs, walls, foundations, and similar components. Your expertise in carpentry will be essential in creating sturdy and precise formwork that ensures the accurate shaping and pouring of concrete during construction. Knowledge of safe working practices will be crucial to maintain a secure and productive work environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Fabricate and construct shutters and formwork systems based on project requirements and specifications.
  • Interpret construction plans and blueprints to understand the layout and design of the formwork.
  • Assemble, install, and align formwork for columns, beams, slabs, walls, and foundations, ensuring they meet the required dimensions and angles.
  • Use appropriate carpentry tools and equipment to cut, shape, and fasten wood and other materials for formwork construction.
  • Ensure the stability and strength of the formwork, making necessary adjustments to achieve the desired structure.
  • Collaborate with construction supervisors, engineers, and other professionals to coordinate formwork activities and project timelines.
  • Adhere to safety guidelines and best practices, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe handling of tools and materials.
  • Inspect and maintain formwork for damage, deterioration, or wear, and perform repairs or replacements as needed.
  • Monitor concrete pouring process to ensure formwork integrity and proper concrete placement.
  • Demolish and remove formwork after concrete has cured, taking care to prevent damage to the finished structure.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area to enhance efficiency and safety.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Shuttering Carpenter, with a strong background in formwork construction.
  • Excellent carpentry skills, including the ability to read and interpret construction plans and blueprints.
  • Knowledge of various types of formwork materials and their appropriate use in different construction scenarios.
  • Familiarity with carpentry tools and equipment used in formwork construction.
  • Understanding of safe working practices and a commitment to adhering to safety regulations.
  • Attention to detail and precision to ensure accurate formwork assembly.
  • Physical strength and stamina to handle heavy materials and work in physically demanding conditions.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with construction teams and follow instructions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet project deadlines.

Working Conditions:
Shuttering Carpenters typically work on construction sites, both indoors and outdoors, depending on the project requirements.
